The Cultural Triangle
Anuradhapura ruled for over a thousand years; its dagobas and sacred bo-tree remain a living pilgrimage. Polonnaruwa, the second capital, is more compact and beautifully preserved — its serene rock-cut Buddhas are among the finest sculpture in Asia. We give each the time it deserves, with cycling among the ruins at dawn.
Sigiriya & Dambulla
The rock fortress of Sigiriya — a royal palace built atop a 200-metre monolith, with frescoes, a mirror wall and water gardens — is the island’s signature climb. Nearby, the Dambulla cave temples shelter 1,500 years of mural and statuary under a single overhang. Climb Sigiriya early; we have you at the base before the gate opens.
Kandy & the living heritage
Heritage here is not only ruins. Kandy, the last royal capital, guards the Temple of the Tooth and hosts the extraordinary Esala Perahera. We weave in temple rituals, ola-leaf manuscripts and craft villages so the history feels continuous, not embalmed.
